After balking at VentraIP’s renewal price ($200+ per year) for hosting my blogs…
Yes I thought I’d start this blog post exactly the same way as the last post I wrote in 2024 as a joke. Didn’t realise I haven’t updated this blog after that initial post after switching providers.
Unfortunately, the 2-year honeymoon discount period was over too quickly, and I got hit with the renewal notice. And yikes, my ramblings are definitely not worth $200+ per year.
Fair is fair, business is business. And VentraIP has been great, and I’d still go back to them (if there’s a discount nudge nudge wink wink). But right now, I’ve moved to Obble on a much more basic plan, which meant it was even cheaper. Just over $100+ hosting for three years, and it’s supposedly a lifetime discount…we’ll see in three years.
Anyways, so moving domain hosts and my WordPress blog was A LOT more difficult than I remembered. I definitely feel like a dinosaur that’s not up with the techy times now.
Doing a fresh install, re-pointing the name server, and restoring the blog backup wasn’t the hard bit. The hard bit was that WordPress kept telling me I’ve entered the wrong friggin’ login password…as if I don’t know what password to put in. It even made me do maths to prove I’m human. MATHS!
After trying all the fixes I found online, like modding the .htaccess, wp-login.php, and even hopping into phpMyAdmin to modify my password directly in the database. Nothing. Worked.
WordPress was like a dutiful bouncer that says – “Haha, nice try mate, but come back when you’re technical and can do maths” while I was trying to log in to the blog at 2 in the morning.
What am I to do? destroy everything in tired rage, of course.
After re-installing the WordPress site for the third time and recovering the blog posts, I’ve finally got it to work. But if it doesn’t work, well, at least Softaculous made it easy to delete and reinstall.
But enough about my technical prowess (or the lack thereof lol), since the last time I posted in 2024, life was moving soooooooo fast.
I went to the Philippines to meet Po’s family in person for the first time since we dated and asked Po’s mum for her blessing (which I was too chicken so I waited until the second last day of the holiday before I asked)
I had a well-planned out…ish? romantic proposal.
But like the best laid plans of mice and pandas, I had to propose one day early, because the helium engagement ring balloon and flowers were a loooooot bigger than I thought, and I had nowhere to hide them overnight without Po finding out. And trust me, she always finds out.
We went to the marriage registry for the interview.
Po clicked her heels 3 times and boom! we suddenly had a wedding date set in 4 months time.
Friends and family were super surprised and I told them – “You and me both”. Like I was expecting it to happen, but that was much sooner than I expected.
And boom! Got married just like that!
And boom! Completely forgot to update this blog
That 10 blog post idea that I supposedly had in the 2024 folder, quietly moved from my Obsidian 2024 folder, to my 2025 folder and now into my 2026 folder. Let’s see if 2026 is the year I’ll get through all the ideas in that 2026 folder.
I really want to write about the great experience I had with Po’s family (+cultural shock) that I had in the Phillippines so that’ll be my next post. Which will totally happen this month(?)
