So… as the title suggests – I impulse bought a 2018 iPad Pro 11″.
First and foremost, I take full responsibility and blame it one of my favourite Youtuber Ali Abdaal.
He made a video on how he takes notes on iPad Pro for med school
And then I spiraled from there, researching on youtube, reddit, tech blogs everyday for a whole month on the ‘Productive’ uses for iPad, the best size and whether I should get a standard iPad or go ‘Pro’.
I also spiraled down the iPad accessories rabbit hole but that’s Another Story For Another Day (ASFAD)
Back in my younger and wilder days, I did buy iPad mini 1st gen for my postgraduate degree to type up notes in class which still works (darn it apple) So to evaluate whether I actually needed upgrading to an iPad Pro I asked myself these questions –
- Am I a doctor? No.
- Am I a student? Well…if you count countless the Udemy courses I enrolled in but not started.
- Do I really need an iPad Pro? Totally.
In my mind the iPad Pro (combined with the Apple Pencil 2) will make me a super productive Panda.
- I can digitise my bullet journal (again, ASFAD)
- I can read countless research articles and take amazing notes.
- I can hone my skills as a matchstick people artist
- I can write my blog anytime anywhere.
- I can binge watch Netflix and YouTube anytime anywhere
I took the above arguments to Po to convince her of the productive uses of having an iPad Pro and she was all like
But despite not believing I will use it for good and not evil, she did offer to buy it for me as a birthday/x’mas gift – What an awesome girlfriend!
After receiving Po’s approval(?), my daily scour on OzBargain/Internet for iPad deals began.
I was contemplating buying it on Black Friday/Cyber Monday to save costs,
but when I saw that the Apple Store started selling refurbished 11″ iPad Pros,
I was like
So I quickly placed my order and eagerly awaited to pick up my shiny refurbished iPad Pro.
I mean, what could go wrong with an Apple certified refurbished unit right? Well…

Why buy Apple Certified Refurbished?
- New battery
- New casing
- Same 1 Year warranty like new ones
It is pretty much the same thing with $200+ savings which can go toward an Apple Pencil 2 or Apple Care+, since I have butter fingers and have a tendency to drop expensive gadgets.
