So I finally bit the bullet, bought a domain and moved from Blogger to WordPress.
To make life easier for myself, I followed Smart Blogger’s incredibly detailed step by step post to build my wordpress site. Huge shout out to Jon Marrow for doing what he does and sharing valuable info with the masases.
Importing my old posts from Blogger was super easy (I mean, I had less than ten published posts after all). All I had to do was take the backup XML file and import it using WordPress’s Blogger plugin. And Voila! It magically imports and categorises itself!
The most time consuming thing was acutally trying out the different themes. There are so many to choose so I hit the decision paralysis stage pretty quickly lol.
I eventually settled on the Ribosome theme as it was good, clean and allowed me to do some tweaking without having to know CSS. The default excerpt length was driving me nuts a little but I’m sure it can be adjusted via CSS.
One thing I really struggled was getting rid of the social media buttons that sandwiched my blog posts.

I googled madly for half an hour thinking it was Ribosome’s theme settings, but turns out it was from the Social Warfare plugin…yes I’m totally tech-literate…

Anyways, I’m sure I can make the blog prettier somewhere down the track once I wrap my head around CSS. For now I’ll just enjoy being able to publish directly to WordPress from the Ulysses app, which greatly enhances my workflow (and gives me less excuses to procrastinate on blog writing).
