Due to the pandemic, we haven’t really been out of the house other than to have dinner with family or groceries.
Po, being the outdoorsy person that she is, was definitely getting cabin fever.
So, when I mentioned the Scenic Rim Farm Gate Trail, Po jumped on it straight away and started planning which places we are going to visit. I was almost surprised she didn’t break out her Excel spreadsheet.

Our first stop was Summer Land Camels.
It’s a very family-friendly camel farm where you can ride camels (pre-booking required), feed camels and eat camels (say what?!).
You can buy feed for the camel for $2, Po and I had heaps of fun feeding the camels from the bag.

After feeding the camels, it was time to feed ourselves. Everything on the menu was camel except the salad.

We ended up going with the camel curry – while expensive, it was absolutely delicious!

The Camelcinno was…interesting? It had a slight salty note and is probably an acquired taste? Side note: Po and I are both lactose intolerant, but we didn’t have any issues with camel milk.
After inhaling the curry, we ended up buying camel salami, camel cheese, hand cream and hand wash from the farm shops. You can also buy camel manure, but we gave that one a miss 🙂

We said our goodbyes to the camel and ventured to our next stop – Scenic Rim Mushrooms.

We had a good chat with the owners and bought two box of the White/Pink oyster mushrooms. The owners said to go back and visit them in winter for chestnut mushroom which we’ve never tried so looking forward to that.
On the way out, we stopped over at Chef Elliot’s stall – the new sous chef Blume Restaurant that my colleague highly recommends.

He cooked a beautiful spinach, pumpkin and mushroom gnocchi over a fire pit which was absolutely delicious. The texture of the gnocchi was on point and flavours of the different ingredient blended together nicely.

Our next stop was Olive View Estate

We bought a refreshing soda and wandered around the beautiful fields while the live music was playing in the background.

On our way home, we stopped over at the Naughty Little Kids Farm and sampled their offerings.
The picked chilli sheep cheese definitely has a kick to it… alright, my tongue was burning because I’m a wuss when it comes to spicy food.

It was getting late, so we headed home without doing the tour. We grabbed some chilli cheese, sundried tomato dip & sheep gelato and hit the road.
For dinner, we made pizza from all the produce that we purchased today – Camel salami, pink oyster mushrooms and chilli sheep cheese which went surprisingly well together. I had my doubts about putting oyster mushrooms on pizza, but hey! It worked out!

All in all, it was a wonderful and relaxing day trip, and we had heaps of fun. The Scenic Rim Farm Trail will be back again 31st July 2022, highly recommend it for those who want a great day out.
